Message

Welcome to the official website of the Directorate of Prisons & Correctional Administration, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The Directorate of Prison was created vide No. HMB(B)-48/2000 Dtd 18/04/2006. The Commissioner & Secretary (Home) was appointed as the ex-officio I.G. Prisons vide No.HMB(B)-54/86 Vol.-I dated 01/12/2005. The nomenclature of the “Directorate of Prisons” has now been changed to “Directorate of Prisons & Correctional Administration” vide notification No. JHQ/ADMN-01/2017/1000 dtd 28/11/2017.

Modern prison administration goes far beyond maintaining safe custody and strict security. Today, our core mission centres on the care, welfare, correction, and successful societal reintegration of every inmate. We are dedicated to building a progressive correctional system that balances absolute discipline with a deep respect for human dignity and individual rights.

To achieve this, the Department is actively modernizing its facilities. We are continuously upgrading our infrastructure, integrating smart technology, and enhancing staff capacity. Towards this end a Central Prison and Correctional Centre and also an Open Correctional Institution at Sher, Kimin is being developed. Furthermore, we provide robust healthcare, targeted skill development, and comprehensive rehabilitation programmes to prepare inmates for a productive future.

This vital work is made possible through the unwavering dedication of our prison officers and personnel, alongside the continuous support of the Government and our community stakeholders. Together, we are transforming the correctional institutions of Arunachal Pradesh into secure, humane, transparent, and highly responsive environments.
